About Me
Hello and Welcome, I am a Senior Athletic Training Student at Emory & Henry College. Something very important to me is helping people. Whether it is help with a class, help with personal issues, or help with an injury, I am always there to help anyone in need. Ever since I was sixteen I have had a job where I helped people. I used to be a swim instructor where I taught kids ages 3-12 basic skills to save their life and others, I had a job where I worked with a legally blind autistic 25 year-old woman, and most recently I had an internship where I was on the medical staff and cared for 150 band members as we travel cross country. This build up is how I knew I would love athletic training. Some important personality traits I have that I believe help me to be a better athletic trainer is that I am empathetic, compassionate, and driven to succeed. Once I have a goal in my head I will do anything possible to have my goal completed to the best of my ability and surpass others expectations of me. I am able to relate to people and understand their emotions and thought processes and help others to solve problems. I believe I am a very effective communicator. I always make sure I understand exactly what others want from me before I move on, and similarly I make sure people understand what I want from them before completing a task. This is something I believe is very important when working in a group or as a team. Each time I explain something my goal to eliminate as much confusion as possible. I believe all of these traits and skills help me to understand people more which ultimately helps me to be a better athletic trainer.
My Role as an ATS
Being an athletic training student I have a variety of roles and responsibility I must keep up with. I am responsible for obtaining a minimum of 150 clinical hours each semester with my designated preceptor. I am currently supervised by ATC Joseph Lynch who is in charge of cross country, rugby, and the cheer and dance team. My role as a student is to work side-by-side with Joe to gain as much experience as possible in the clinic and with his assigned sports. This includes understanding and implementing treatment techniques such as manual therapy, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, laser, hot and cold modalities, and creating rehabilitation programs. I am also able to do clinical evaluation and am capable of doing a full body evaluation where I determine the patients injury. I also have a role in games and practices where I help supervise the activity making sure our athletes are safe. This includes the possibility of emergency care techniques such as CPR/AED, wound care/ blood control, on-site evaulation, splinting and bracing, spine boarding, and activating EMS as needed.
Mission Statement
My mission is to become a certified athletic trainer with a Doctorates in Athletic Training to create the brightest future for my career path and to give my future patient the best care possible.
